Since 1842, the Glades Pike Inn has welcomed visitors to Pennsylvania's scenic Laurel Mountains. This charming bed & breakfast inn once served as a stagecoach stop along Glades Pike, now US Route 31, and played an important role in the 19th Century history of the area. In the early years, travelers unhitched their horses and went inside this cozy two-story, red brick inn for good food, shelter and camaraderie. On any given night one might find carriages, stagecoaches or Conestoga wagons outside. Today, while the mode of travel has changed, guests of the inn are still treated to a warm, friendly environment nurtured by the gregarious innkeeper. The Glades Pike Inn was carefully remodeled in the fall of 1987 as a first-class bed & breakfast inn, while preserving its 19th Century charm. The inn is conveniently located on Route 31 between the Donegal and Somerset exits of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Its period architecture features exposed wood floors, high ceilings and brick construction. Modern conveniences include new guestroom double beds, private bathrooms, cable television and a locked ski room. As a guest of the inn you are invited to a hearty breakfast each morning in the dining room. On weekend afternoons the innkeeper hosts a wine and cheese social in the living room. You may relax in the privacy of your guestroom or in comfortable chairs and sofas that front a large wood-burning fireplace in the living room. Smaller fireplaces are located in three of the five guestrooms. Several family restaurants are located nearby. Glades Pike Inn is located in the heart of the Laurel Mountains, one of the most beautiful recreational areas in the country. For Alpine and cross-country skiers, Hidden Valley resort is only five miles from the inn; Seven Springs is a 20-minute drive; Laurel Mountain resort is 15 miles to the north. For hikers and nature lovers, Laurel Hill Hiking Trail crosses Route 31 only four miles to the west. Nearby are four state parks - Kooser, Laurel Hill, Laurel Ridge, and Ohiopyle - with 25,000 acres of woodlands, lakes and streams. Mt. Davis, (El. 3213) the highest point in Pennsylvania; Fallingwater, the famous Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece; and two historic outposts from the French and Indian War, Ft. Necessity and Ft. Ligonier, are all within a short driving distance of the inn. Fishing opportunities abound and seasonal hunting is permitted in the state game lands. The whitewater rapids and a 15-mile bicycling trail at Ohiopyle State Park offer a unique adventure.
